Our Philosophy

"Ko te ahurei o tetamaitiarahia o tātou mahi"
Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.

At Te Korowai Early Learning Centre we aspire to empower each child on their learning journey to become a lifelong learner; secure in their sense of belonging, resilience, self-worth and ability to explore the wider world around them.
We encourage each child to be leaders in their own learning and seek to scaffold and extend their interests. We respect each child as a unique and independent individual and will value the contribution they will make to our centre community. We believe in providing a warm, caring, nurturing and protected environment for our tamariki.
We believe in the vision underpinning TeWhāriki (2017), that children are competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society. Every child is a unique individual and we value and treasure all children regardless of gender and ethnicity, diversity of ability and learning needs, family structure and values, socio-economic status and religion. We celebrate the uniqueness of every culture within our Centre, working collaboratively with parents and whānau to support aspirations and values. We believe strongly in fostering our relationships between family, whānau and children to support a sense of belonging and children’s well-being within the centre. We believe children need to feel emotionally safe and secure in order to be ready to engage in play, resulting in higher order learning.
We acknowledge the bi-cultural heritage of New Zealand is very significant. We recognize TeTiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand, and are committed to embracing our bi-cultural heritage. We believe that we have a crucial role to play in providing children with culturally responsive environments that support their learning and ensuring that they are provided with equitable opportunities to learn. We appreciate the diverse nature of families in our community and work hard to respect their values and beliefs.
